Lime is a self-fertilizing plant; male and female flowers are located on the same tree. The flowers can be individual or in groups, and like lemons, they can bloom several times a year. Fully ripened lime fruits are yellow similar to a lemon fruit. Nonetheless, they are commercially used unripe due to easier transport and storage.
