A deciduous tree which can grow up to 12 meters. It forms a wide cone-shaped canopy. Foliage is leathery, shiny and dark green. Blooms in late spring on one year old branches bearing both male and female flowers. Fruits are round and orange colored, up to 10 centimeters in diameter depending on the variety. They ripen during autumn and become edible when soft. A favorite among many because of its sweet, spiced flavor. Tolerates low temperatures and is resistant to pests. Likes a sunny position.
