Evergreen shrub which grows from 0.5 to 5 meters in height, depending upon variety. The flowering starts in April, and with later varieties in the midst of June. The flowering period lasts about 20 days. The flower can be large or small in various colours - white, yellow, orange, pink, violet, blue or red. It prefers acidic soil and positions in partial to full shade.
